Providing QoS Guarantees in a NoC by Virtual Channel Reservation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Virtual channel reservation is a simple approach for providing guaranteed throughput services in a virtual channel network-on-chip. However, its performance is limited by the number of virtual channels per physical channels. In this paper we explore the limits of the approach and investigate how these limits depend on the routing algorithm, the traffic locality, the network topology and the network size. The results show the the approach can be applied in a network of size 10-by-10 nodes with four virtual channels per physical channel. The traffic locality has strong influence on the performance limits of the approach and can also help in reducing the communication energy cost by 50% to 70%. The type of the routing algorithm does not practically influence the performance

Traffic engineered NoC for streaming applications
Streaming applications demand hard bandwidth and throughput guarantees in a multiprocessor environment amidst resource competing processes. We present a Label Switching based Network-on-Chip (LSNoC) motivated by throughput guarantees offered by bandwidth reservation. Label switching is a packet relaying technique in which individual packets carry route information in the form of labels. A centr...

In this paper, we propose an architecture for provisioning nondisrupted QoS guarantees in mobile ad hoc networks, and extend the scalable resource reservation protocol (SRRP) for signaling in ad hoc networks. In particular, we present a number of techniques that can enable QoS guarantees in ad hoc networks, including geographical reservation and clusterhead election (GRACE), the request-to-rese...

With the increase of transistors' density, popularity of System on Chip (SoC) has increased exponentially. As a communication module for SoC, Network on Chip (NoC) framework has been adapted as its backbone. In this paper, we propose a methodology for designing area-optimized application specific NoC while providing hard Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for real time flows. The novelty of th...
متن کاملQoS in Wireless Data Networks
Quality of service (QoS) is an important consideration in networking, but it is also a significant challenge. Providing QoS guarantees becomes even more challenging when you add the complexities of wireless and mobile networks. This paper discusses the challenges and solutions involved in providing QoS in wireless data networks. Multiple techniques for providing service guarantees are presented...
متن کاملEdge-to-Edge Quality-of-Service Domain
Researchers have proposed numerous approaches to providing Quality-of-Service (QoS) across the Internet. The IETF has proposed two reservation approaches: hop-by-hop bandwidth reservation (IntServ); and per-hop behaviour bandwidth reservation (DiffServ). An edge router generates traffic, accepts per-flow reservation and classifies them into predetermined service class; while a core router ensur...
